John Alan Lee, a sociologist at the University of Toronto, Canada, proposed another way to distinguish between different kinds of love in 1973 by classifying love between men and women into six forms: erotic love, playful love, friendship love, attachment love, altruistic love, and realistic love. These six types of love differ markedly in the depth of the couple’s experience, their devotion and commitment to the lover, the characteristics of the lover, and their expectations of the rewards of giving love.
Eric Fromm, whose theory of love is concentrated in the book The Art of Love, once said, “Love is the only sound and satisfactory answer to the problems of human existence.”
Among the many studies on the elements of love, the most important theoretical achievement came from Robert Sternberg, a psychologist at Yale University, who was a pioneer in this emerging field of research. He argued that although human love is complex and varied, it basically consists of three main components, namely passion, intimacy and commitment.
Love is very irrational, you will suddenly be attracted to someone, and then fall in love with him / her for no reason. Maybe you are amazed by his / her appearance. Maybe you are conquered by his / her talent. Or maybe you are simply infected by those smiling eyes.
